A federal immigration officer shot and injured a person in New York City on Thursday, according to Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
"Early reports indicate agents surrounded him and a 5-year-old child in his car before firing multiple rounds," Mamdani said in a social-media post Thursday. "We believe the child was physically unharmed."
The shooting occurred around 4 p.m. in the Marble Hill neighborhood near the Bronx, according to the New York Police Department. The person who was shot is conscious and at a hospital.
The police department said it wasn't involved in the incident and wasn't at the scene at the time of the shooting. A police spokesman referred questions to the Department of Homeland Security.
DHS, which oversees Immigration and Customs Enforcement, didn't respond to a request for comment.
Mamdani said he plans to speak with President Trump and ask that he end all ICE enforcement actions in the city.
"Abolish ICE," Mamdani said.
