The Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) has chosen J-Pharma's (TYO:520A) Beacon-BTC trial for a grant support of up to 1.5 billion yen, according to a Monday filing with the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The pharmaceutical company's global phase three clinical trial assesses the LAT1 inhibitor nanvuranlat (JPH203) as a second-line biliary tract cancer treatment.

The company expects the grant to aid in completing part A of the trial, which looks to achieve the optimal dosing regiment and is underway in the U.S.

The company plans to grow part A into a multinational clinical trial that includes Japan.

The grant does not cover funding for a feasibility study.

The trial's research and development period will run from October to December 2028.

Shares of the company rose more than 4% in recent trade.
