FedEx and Stripe are teaming up to use logistics data to help small- and medium-sized businesses access financing.
The collaboration will also expand payment options for FedEx customers globally, the companies said Tuesday.
FedEx Dataworks, a subsidiary focused on using data and technology to develop supply-chain solutions, and Stripe said they plan to combine information from FedEx's logistics network with Stripe's financial infrastructure to develop financing solutions for small- and medium-sized businesses.
The financing solutions aim to expand access to capital for logistics-heavy businesses, which can face challenges securing financing. Traditional financing models often rely on bank statements and credit scores, potentially overlooking operational indicators such as shipment activity, inventory movement and fulfillment performance, the companies said.
FedEx and Stripe will look to use those operational indicators to inform financing analysis through Stripe Capital, aiming to make financing decisions faster and better reflect a business's operating activity by incorporating logistics data, they said.
The companies said the first joint solution is expected to launch in early 2027.
At the same time, FedEx will begin using Stripe as a payment-processing option, adding more than 50 payment methods to its checkout options. The companies said the expanded payment capabilities are intended to make it easier for customers in different markets to pay using local payment methods.
