United Parcel Service (UPS) employee missed an email warning not to route an F-35 stealth fighter jet shipment through Hong Kong, allowing China to obtain parts from the aircraft, Bloomberg reported Wednesday, citing a person briefed on the incident.

The shipment, which included an F-35 cockpit canopy and a weapons-bay door, was meant to travel to San Francisco via South Korea and Taiwan but was mistakenly routed via Hong Kong after it left Australia late, the person said, according to the report.

The incident has prompted investigations by the Pentagon and State Department, the report said.

The White House and UPS did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
