Russell 2000 Index's Slump Deepens

The Russell 2000 index of small-cap stocks fell 1.3% today to 2793.20, putting it roughly 9% below record highs from earlier this year, almost on the cusp of correction territory.

Yesterday marked the first day of 2026 in which the S&P 500 was outperforming the Russell 2000 on a year-to-date basis. The broad benchmark also closed at a record high yesterday. After today, the S&P is up 14%, while the Russell is up 12.5%. Read more on the markets today here.
