Market Chatter: Meta Platforms, States Discuss Settlement in Teen Abuse Case

Meta Platforms (META) and 29 state attorneys general have discussed a potential settlement of a case in which the company is accused of designing Facebook and Instagram to addict teenagers, Bloomberg reported Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The trial is currently in its second week in federal court in California.The attorneys general are seeking financial penalties and changes to how the platforms operate.

A loss in the trial could mean penalties of up to $1.4 trillion for Meta, the report said.

Meta did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
