Uber Technologies is rolling out a new feature for its teen accounts that lets parents view a live stream of their kids' ride-share trips.

Parents will be able to check the live video streaming feature to see how their teens' rides are going, Uber said Tuesday.

The feature became live Tuesday in nine markets in the U.S., and will be rolling out nationwide over the coming weeks.

The streaming will run through the driver's smartphone's front-facing camera. Only the teen's linked parent or guardian will be able to view the video stream during an active trip.

The video is also encrypted, meaning that none of the parties will have access to the stream after the trip ends. Uber will only view the recording as part of an investigation if a safety incident is reported.

Uber launched teen accounts in 2023 and said the live streaming element was an idea from parents.

The accounts also have live trip tracking, PIN verification and audio recording.
