Avita Medical (RCEL) said Tuesday its multicenter PermeaDerm-I clinical study for its biosynthetic wound matrix met its primary endpoint, delivering clinically comparable outcomes to cadaveric allograft while reducing product cost by 70%.

The study showed statistically significant superiority in mean cost per percentage of total body surface area, or TBSA, treated, the company said. Mean treatment cost was $148.70 for every 1% TBSA treated with PermeaDerm, compared with $497.10 for allograft, Avita said.

As an off-the-shelf product, PermeaDerm reduced preparation time by 95.7% compared with allograft, the company added.

The study enrolled 40 patients across 11 US burn centers with wounds involving up to 30% TBSA, the company said.
