Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) sold 5.5 billion Australian dollars ($3.9 billion) in its debut Australian dollar bond offering with a 20-year tranche yielding 6.98%, Bloomberg News reported Tuesday, citing an email from Australia & New Zealand Banking Group.

The multi-part transaction attracted over AU$18 billion in investor demand, the news outlet quoted the bank as saying.

The record borrowing cost reflects multi-decade high global yields alongside heavy debt issuance from tech companies and governments, Bloomberg News reported.

Alphabet and Australia & New Zealand Banking Group did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
