Huntington Ingalls Industries' (HII) Newport News Shipbuilding division has completed acceptance sea trials for the John F. Kennedy, the second Gerald R. Ford-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the company said Sunday.

Shipbuilders, Kennedy's crew, and Navy personnel carried out the acceptance trials, assessing core ship operations, systems and components, Huntington Ingalls said.

Preliminary acceptance comes next, enabling the Navy to begin underway testing of the carrier's specialized systems, it added.
