TJX Facing Stiffer Competition in Off-Price Retail
Dow Jones

921 ET - Competition is intensifying in the off-price retail space, in which is TJX is fending off rivals Burlington and Ross Stores, Emarketer analyst Rachel Wolff says in a note. Those stores are copying TJX's playbook in hopes of picking up more down-trading wealthy customers, the analyst says. TJX has been taking aim at Burlington and Ross with a marketing blitz that features celebrity-led campaigns and sports partnerships, Wolff says. Marmaxx just turned in a tepid performance in 2Q, so TJX will have to look for other ways to hold on to customers, the analyst says.
