SoftBank (TYO:94340) said it conducted Japan's first trial of an AI-native scheduler for link adaptation on a commercial 5G network with Ericsson Japan KK, the Japanese unit of Swedish networking and telecommunications firm Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC), according to a Thursday release.

The Japanese telecommunications and technology company said the trials, conducted on its 5G commercial network to verify its effectiveness, evaluated spectral efficiency, user throughput, robustness, and stability across SoftBank's 5G network.

The results showed spectral efficiency improved by up to 25%, while downlink user throughput rose by up to 50%, improving both spectral efficiency and downlink user throughput by 10% across all locations tested.
