Trial Holdings Inc., a discount chain operator based in southwestern Japan, reported net sales of 1.34 trillion yen in its consolidated financial statements for the fiscal year ending June 2026, surpassing the 1 trillion-yen mark for the first time.

The figure increased 67.6% year on year, Trial Holdings announced Thursday. The scale of the company expanded after acquiring Seiyu Co., which operates supermarkets mainly in Tokyo and neighboring prefectures, in July 2025. Same-store sales were also robust.

The acquisition of Seiyu pushed up the total store count for the corporate group by about 70% to 621 stores as of June 30.

The operating income of Trial Holdings, which represents earnings from core business activities, posted a record high of 30.3 billion yen in the fiscal year, up 43.9% year on year.

Net profit decreased by 70% to 3.5 billion yen due to costs associated with the acquisition of Seiyu.

Trial Holdings expects to post net sales of 1.45 trillion yen and a net profit of 10.7 billion yen for the fiscal year ending June 2027.

The company said Seiyu has seen a recovery in both sales and customer numbers since the acquisition. Trial Holdings aims to boost the synergy of the acquisition by increasing the number of stores operated under the new "Trial Seiyu" format, which combines the strengths of Trial Holdings and Seiyu.
