Market Chatter: American Airlines Planes Operate With Same Call Sign at Phoenix International Airport

American Airlines (AAL) planes with the same call sign were landing and taking off simultaneously at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport around midnight local time on Friday, Bloomberg reported Friday, citing air traffic audio records.

The aircraft were converging along the same path and on the same radio frequency, prompting the controller to carefully direct the jets to avoid any potential issue, according to the media outlet.

The landing aircraft arrived late in Phoenix, while the departing plane left almost without delay, the report added.

American Airlines did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
