Uniper said it is targeting new revenue opportunities through selling properties to data center operators, hoping to benefit from the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure.
The German state-owned gas importer said that it had identified more than 10 sites across Europe that could be used for data center development, with three related projects at advanced stages.
"These sites are strategically located along European data corridors and thus offer attractive conditions for locating data centers," Uniper said Tuesday.
The plans build on a strategy unveiled by Uniper in July, when it said rising demand for digital infrastructure presented a new growth opportunity for its existing power plant sites.
Uniper also plans around 5 billion euros ($5.77 billion) of investment through 2030 in renewable energy operations and ensuring secure supply, with just over half of the amount allocated to Germany, it said.
Further information is expected later this year, it added.
The moves come after the German federal government in May said it would slash its more than 99% stake in the energy company to no more than 25% by the end of 2028 at the latest. Shares rose on the news at the time.
