U.S. Futures Down, European Stocks Mixed

U.S. futures for the S&P 500 were down 0.1% and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.1%. Changes in futures do not necessarily predict movements after the opening bell.

In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 gained 0.1% in morning trading. Alcon added 4.8% and Lion Finance Group rose 4.2%. On the other hand, Spirax Group slipped 6.2%, and Frontline dropped 3%. The FTSE 100 was flat. Other stocks in Europe were flat as France's CAC 40 was flat and Germany's DAX held steady.

The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index was flat at 96.16.

In commodities, Brent crude climbed 1.9% to $89.39 a barrel, and WTI crude rose 1.7% to $83.55 a barrel. The European benchmark price for natural gas, the Dutch futures contract TTF, was up 0.3% to 61 euros a megawatt hour.

The German 10-year Bund yield climbed by 2 basis points to 3.213% from 3.191%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury rose by 2 basis points to 4.733% from 4.713%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.

Stocks in Asia were down. Markets in Japan were closed. Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 1%. China's benchmark Shanghai Composite fell 0.8%.
