Hong Kong stocks opened higher on Tuesday as Asian markets advanced, with investors awaiting U.S. inflation data for clues on the Federal Reserve's interest rate path.

The Hang Seng Index rose 0.2%, or 61.10 points, to 25,998.59, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index gained 0.4%, or 32.22 points, to 8,654.06.

Wall Street ended slightly lower overnight as investors weighed the outlook for U.S. interest rates and a potential deal between Washington and Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Oil prices jumped about 5% as uncertainty over the waterway persisted.

Investors are now focused on U.S. July inflation data due Wednesday, with a softer reading likely to ease expectations for a Federal Reserve rate hike.
