Consumer companies fell amid concerns about another spike in energy prices and interest rates.
The U.S. Global Jets exchange-traded fund, a basket of major airlines, fell sharply.
"You can't ignore geopolitics -- so much of what's going on in that is driving other areas, especially at the Fed," said J.D. Joyce, president of Houston financial advisory Joyce Wealth Management. "[A key] input for the Fed to make decisions is higher energy prices bringing on higher inflation."
