The weaker earnings performance is attributed to a 186% y-o-y increase in maritime asset operating expenses to US$26.9 million and less earnings from joint ventures and associates by 52.1% to US$6.97 million. The company also saw a currency revaluation loss on financial assets which amounted to US$5.6 million in contrast to a gain of US$16.1 million in 1HFY2025.\nThe growth in total income is attributed to the strong performance and strategic expansion of its core maritime business. YZJ Maritime adds that the higher income reflects its focus on building a \"resilient, high-quality\" earnings base.\nWhile the company acknowledges the higher operating costs arising from maritime business expansion, it says this strengthens its ability to harness greater value creation opportunities through strategic asset monetisation and resale opportunities with a growing pipeline of newbuild maritime assets.\nOn a segmental basis, income from the maritime business increased by 70% to US$51.7 million. This was driven mainly by higher income from maritime fund assets and reflected the expanded maritime fund asset portfolio with increased newbuilds. \nUnder cash management, the income jumped 120% or to US$14.4 million, mainly due to net gains in the fair value of financial assets and liabilities as a result of favourable mark to market movements. This was, however, partially offset by lower interest income earned from reduced treasury cash balances. \nFor the other non-maritime investments segment, income dipped by 12.3% to US$15.5 million , mainly due to lower interest income.\nReflecting the strategic deployment of cash into its core maritime business, the balance sheet saw a rebalancing of the asset mix from current to non-current assets. The company held cash and equivalents of US$238 million without any bank borrowings as at June 30. NAV increased by around 2% to 47.47 US cents.\nOutlook-wise, the company notes that the maritime industry is an \"indispensable cornerstone\" of global economic development, serving as the \"lifeblood\" of international trade, commerce, and connectivity. \nIt aims to capitalise on the macro opportunities brought on by the structural shifts within the maritime industry, which are driven by tighter capital conditions in the Western capital markets and accelerating decarbonisation requirements by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), among others.\nCEO Ren Yuanlin says that the company has been \"building a stronger foundation' by expanding its maritime business and pipeline of newbuild vessel orders since its November listing. He adds: \"Given the two to three year shipbuilding cycle, there is a natural transition period before our maritime investments are realised, during which upfront capital commitments and expenses are required.
