Coles Group's (ASX:COL) unit, Coles Supermarkets Australia, must pay about AU$907,376 in damages to a customer who suffered an injury while shopping at one of its supermarkets in November 2020, according to a Friday ruling by the New South Wales Supreme Court.

The shopper, Suzanne Fuchs, was seeking a sum of AU$2.5 million after slipping and falling due to the presence of oily liquid on an aisle floor.

The court also ordered Coles Supermarkets to pay the plaintiff's costs.

Coles Group did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.

Its shares fell past 1% in recent Friday trade.
