Strategy Posts $8.2 Billion Loss as Crypto Winter Drags On

Strategy, the bitcoin accumulation firm founded by Michael Saylor, reported an $8.2 billion loss in the second quarter, driven by a steep decline in the value of its bitcoin holdings.

The bitcoin treasury company on Thursday reported a loss of $8.2 billion, or $24.45 a share, compared with net income of $10 billion, or $32.60 a share, a year earlier.

Strategy adopted a fair-value accounting standard last year that requires companies holding digital assets to show the fair value of their cryptocurrencies on their balance sheets at the end of each quarter. The change has driven wild swings in Strategy's earnings, with the company posting a $12.54 billion loss for the first quarter of 2026.

Revenue rose to $122.4 million, from $114.5 million a year ago.

After a sharp sell-off in its common and preferred stock, Strategy last month unveiled a turnaround plan that includes stock buybacks and bitcoin sales to restore investor confidence. The company currently holds 843,775 bitcoin worth $55 billion, based on current prices.

Shares of Strategy edged lower in after-market trading.
