Alkane Resources (ASX:ALK) updated the mineral resource for the Storheden deposit at its Björkdal operation in Sweden after recent drilling intercepted gold-bearing quartz veins along 2.7 kilometers strike length and to a depth of 464 meters, according to a Wednesday Australian bourse filing.

The mineral resource now includes indicated resources of 1.1 million tonnes grading 2.51 grams per tonne (g/t) grade of gold, or 87,000 ounces and inferred resources of 1.9 million tonnes grading 2.11 g/t grade of gold, or 125,000 ounces, the company said. This represents an increase of around 26% in inferred contained gold from the previous inferred resource.

The drilling delivered assays of 39.2 g/t grade of gold over 0.6 meters, as well as 107 g/t grade of gold over 0.4 meters.

The company's shares climbed nearly 2% in recent trading on Wednesday.
