DroneShield (ASX:DRO) released the third generation of its proprietary radio frequency intelligence engine, RfAI-3, according to a Tuesday statement.

The engine prioritizes wideband detection to sense drone threats beyond known and pre-classified emitters. Initial releases are expected in the second half of the year and further releases through 2027.

The engine detects the radio frequency emissions in an area and then identifies these emissions against previously observed drone signatures, according to the statement. If it finds a match, the emitter is classified with full detail. Otherwise, the engine generates a signature for the unknown emission and presents it to the operator with a confidence assessment, ranked against the wider spectrum picture.

Its engineering teams maintain a program of emitter identification, classification, and integration so radio frequency signatures can be catalogued.

Its shares plunged 13% in recent trading on Tuesday.
