Edwards Lifesciences narrowed its full-year sales guidance after recording double-digit growth in the latest quarter, boosted by growth in its transcatheter aortic valve replacement division.

The stock gained 6.5%, to $89.26, in after-hours trading.

The medical-technology company said Thursday it now expects sales of $6.6 billion to $6.9 billion for the full year, raising the bottom end of its prior range of $6.5 billion to $6.9 billion. It continues to expect adjusted earnings per share of $2.95 to $3.05 for the year.

For the third quarter, the Irvine, Calif., company expects sales of $1.63 billion to $1.71 billion on adjusted per-share earnings of 71 cents to 77 cents. Analysts polled by FactSet project sales of $1.69 billion and adjusted earnings of 75 cents a share.

The guidance came as the company recorded higher sales in its latest quarter, coming in a notch above analysts' expectations.

Second-quarter profit came in at $241.9 million, or 42 cents a share, compared with $333.2 million, or 56 cents a share, a year earlier.

Adjusted earnings per share were 78 cents, compared with estimates of 74 cents a share according to analysts polled by FactSet.

Sales climbed 14%, to $1.74 billion, compared with analyst estimates of $1.7 billion.

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement sales, which make up the bulk of the company's top line, rose 11%, to $1.26 billion. The increase was driven by growth in procedures, in part due to evidence supporting proactive disease management of severe aortic stenosis, the company said.

Additionally, surgical sales increased 6.5% and sales of transcatheter mitral and tricuspid therapies jumped 47%.
