Materials maker 3M saw its share price leap about 9% after raising its full-year adjusted earnings guidance, making it Tuesday morning's best performer in the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

The company saw its Q2 adjusted earnings increase 11% year-over-year thanks in part to strong performance in its industrial and safety businesses. Chief Executive Bill Brown said the company is reshaping its portfolio to focus on high-growth, high-margin businesses such as data centers and fire and rescue equipment.

3M is continuing to boost the number of new products it offers, which is helping to drive sales. Brown said the company has improved its R&D process so it can commercialize ideas faster, and is on track to launch more than 350 new products this year.

For the full year, 3M is predicting its adjusted earnings will be up to $8.95 per share, a 25-cent boost over its prior guidance.
