Regis Walking Away from Vault 'an Unsurprising Outcome'

2329 GMT - Regis Resources's decision to abandon its takeover campaign for Vault Minerals after Genesis Minerals gatecrashed the deal doesn't shock Ord Minnett analyst Paul Kaner. He says it's "an unsurprising outcome here considering the synergies (A$1.5 billion-A$2 billion) between Genesis and Vault which made it hard for Regis to compete on price." Ord Minnett thinks a combination of Genesis and Vault makes strategic sense. Regis says it's owed a break fee of roughly A$50.7 million. Ord Minnett has buy calls on Vault and Genesis, with price targets of A$6.60/share and A$7.00/share, respectively. Vault ended last week at A$4.87. Genesis closed Friday at A$5.67.
