0937 ET - The net gain in Canadian employment for June adds further evidence that recession talk was misguided, and should give Bank of Canada senior officials leeway to squarely focus on containing inflation, says Karl Schamotta, chief market strategist at forex firm Corpay. Canada added a net 18,200 jobs, above market expectations for a 10,000 gain, and the unemployment rate dipped to 6.5%. To be sure, the bulk of June's job gains were in the part-time variety, which tend to offer less pay and fewer hours for workers. Still, Schamotta notes there was "little sign of a pullback" in full-time employment after a monster 154,000 jump in May. Indeed, full-time employment in Canada rose 0.8% in June on an one-year basis. (paul.vieira@wsj.com; @paulvieira)
