Shares of Satellos Bioscience rose after it reported its investigational drug candidate SAT-3247 for adults living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy showed positive results.

The stock was up 16% to $9.49 in recent trading, and rose 61% since the start of the year.

The data from its Trailhead evaluation showed reduced fat friction, increased effort in upper limbs and increased handgrip strength. Satellos, a biotechnology company, primarily develops novel therapies to treat degenerative muscle diseases.

Perry Shieh, a professor at UCLA's David Geffen School of Medicine, said the consistency across measures of strength, muscle composition and safety in the data was highly encouraging for the evaluation of SAT-3247.

Chief Executive Frank Gleeson said the results were encouraging for Basecamp, another phase 2 study for SAT-3247, which is on track to complete enrollment by the end of the third quarter.
