Canada and Japan look to join forces to stockpile critical minerals and broaden mining cooperation in a bid to diversify away from dependence on China, Reuters reported Friday, quoting Canada's International Trade Minister, Maninder Sidhu.

The two countries are reported to be exploring joint mining projects, off-take agreements, and stockpiling arrangements for graphite and gallium to strengthen the supply chains for critical minerals.

The Canadian minister is currently on an official visit to Japan with about 300 delegates from nearly 180 companies and organizations.

Canada and Japan's trade ministries did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
