1227 ET - Much like new Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh, Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem has some reservations regarding forward guidance. Warsh says the Fed has dropped forward guidance, adding it is not well suited in the present policy environment. Asked at a press conference about Warsh's approach, Macklem says it's important for financial markets and the public to know, generally, how the central bank would respond to certain economic developments. "I share the view there's a lot of uncertainty, and false precision about what our future moves are going to be may not be helpful." During the pandemic, Macklem told Canadians the policy rate would sit at rock-bottom levels until economic slack was fully absorbed. (Paul.Vieira@wsj.com)
