Amazon's (AMZN) Prime Video streaming service is in negotiations to acquire broadcasting rights for up to two National Rugby League matches per week in Australia, the Financial Review reported Thursday, citing two people close to the negotiations.

Amazon's interest challenges competing bids from existing rights holders Foxtel and Nine Entertainment, which are both seeking full control of the league's content packages, the report said.

Australian Rugby League Commission Chairman Peter V'landys is open to dividing the coverage among separate subscription platforms, the news outlet reported.

Amazon, Foxtel, Nine Entertainment, and the National Rugby League did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
