BOE Rate Rise Looks Less Likely Despite Market Pricing -- Market Talk

0754 GMT - Investors' expectations of a quarter-point interest-rate rise by the Bank of England this year look less likely to occur after weaker-than-expected U.K. inflation data, T. Rowe Price's Tomasz Wieladek says in a note. Annual U.K. inflation remained at 2.8% in May, below the 3.0% expected by economists in a WSJ survey. The weak inflation data and the possible reopening of the Strait of Hormuz could allow the BOE to keep interest rates on hold in the coming months, Wieladek says. Investors marginally lowered BOE rate hike expectations to a total of 26 basis points of interest rate rises in 2026 after the data, from 28bps of rate hikes priced in beforehand, LSEG data show.
