Sanuwave Shares Tumble on 2Q Revenue Outlook Cut

Shares of Sanuwave Health sank after the company cut its revenue guidance for the current quarter.

The stock dropped 37% to $9.22 in early trading. Shares have fallen 68% since the year started.

The medical device maker said before the opening bell that it now expects $8.5 million to $9.5 million in revenue for the fiscal second quarter, instead of the $11.1 million to $11.6 million it projected in May.

Chief Executive Morgan Frank said there have been material changes in the conditions of the capital equipment market for Sanuwave's UltraMIST system, which uses low-frequency ultrasound in a saline mist to help heal wounds. Signs of improvement in March and April reversed in May and early June, Frank said.

"Widespread clawbacks of CMS reimbursement for skin sub and allograft usage have been coming in far worse than many seem to have expected," Frank said. "This has been driving a number of wound care practices out of business."

Some of those closures have resulted in used UltraMIST systems going up for sale, siphoning away demand for new systems, according to Frank.
