0719 GMT - There's high likelihood of Japanese authorities intervening if the dollar's uptrend against the yen continues after this week's slew of central bank meetings, senior Asia economist Alex Loo and FX strategist Howard Du at TD Securities say in a research report. "JPY's weakness, as measured by the real effective exchange rate, is becoming pronounced and warrants repeated FX interventions even as volatility in the JPY has been limited," they say. TD Securities sees the dollar level of 162 yen as the next likely intervention threshold. However, "given the USD's broad uptrend against global currencies, the MoF might wait until USDJPY reaches 165 before intervening," they add. The dollar is 0.1% lower at 160.-8 yen, LSEG data show. 0718 GMT - The euro recovers only modestly against the dollar after the U.S. and Iran agreed an interim peace deal as the implications of the agreement and Federal Reserve's reaction are unclear, Commerzbank's Thu Lan Nguyen says. Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz won't return to normal straight away, she says in a note. It is uncertain how quickly this will happen and whether it will be reopened on a lasting basis. An end to the conflict doesn't contradict U.S. interest-rate rise expectations following strong U.S. data although the Federal Reserve might not agree with this assessment, she says. The euro rises 0.3% to $1.1605 after earlier reaching a 10-day high of $1.1622 but remains below preconflict levels, according to LSEG. (renae.dyer@wsj.com)

0716 GMT - Although a peace deal between Iran and the U.S. is in the offing, tough conversations still need to take place within an initial 60-day window to ensure peace is sustainable, Deutsche Bank analysts say in a note. The peace agreement foresees a wider accord which includes constraints around Iran's nuclear program, a phased lifting of U.S. sanctions on Iran's oil exports, and unfreezing around $12 billion in overseas assets. Moreover, it also carries a commitment to reopen Hormuz within 30 days and the removal of the U.S. naval blockade. "After 107 days and a seemingly endless number of false dawns, we finally have a deal between the U.S. and Iran to end the war and open the Strait of Hormuz," the bank says. 0704 GMT - Although the Strait of Hormuz is on track to reopen to shipping following the U.S.-Iran deal, and the Brent spot price has fallen to $80, "massive challenges" await in normalizing oil production and transport logistics, Jyske Bank says. The drawdown of oil inventories will continue into September and the bank maintains its forecast for Brent at $93 in the third quarter before receding to $75 in the second quarter of 2027. For natural gas, the speed at which Qatar resumes LNG exports to Asia will be crucial, it says. "However, the reopening of Hormuz reduces the pressure and the global shortage of LNG." Diesel is unlikely to see a sustained price drop, as the normalization process following a reopened Hormuz will be long, difficult and full of challenges, it adds. (dominic.chopping@wsj.com)

0656 GMT - Swiss business organization Economiesuisse welcomes the rejection of the move that sought to limit Switzerland's population to 10 million people. In a national referendum, Swiss voters refused the proposal spearheaded by the right-wing Swiss People's Party that intended to put a tight leash on immigration. "Immigration must continue to be geared to the labor market," Economiesuisse says. The organization adds that asylum migration poses a particular challenge and urges policymakers to implement asylum law and simplify building permit procedures so that more housing can be built. "Infrastructure must evolve to keep pace with the current situation." (andrea.figueras@wsj.com)

0647 GMT - China's battery sector is likely to benefit from strong energy-transition-linked momentum, say DBS Group Research's Tina Hu and Pei Hwa Ho in a note. The instability of wind and solar power generation has bolstered demand for energy storage, they say, noting clean energy's rising prevalence in markets like Europe and China. Global energy-storage project installations are likely to increase at a 29% compound annual growth rate over 2025-2030, the analysts say. China is likely to continue dominating the global energy-storage supply chain, given its scale cost advantages and network buildout, they add. DBS's top sector pick is Contemporary Amperex Technology, as its battery assets remain essential for battery energy storage systems to achieve reliable long-term operations. (megan.cheah@wsj.com)

0642 GMT - Singapore Exchange looks positioned for structurally stronger growth, Maybank Research's Thilan Wickramasinghe says in a research report. SGX's May equity-market turnover data shows a quickening trend toward a higher "baseline velocity" that should drive structurally higher securities daily average value in the medium-term, the analyst says. With geopolitical and macroeconomic uncertainty unlikely to abate soon, SGX's positioning as a multiasset risk-management platform is a critical differentiator. Maybank Research lifts its FY 2026-2028 EPS estimates for SGX by 4%-8% to reflect higher average daily volume forecasts. It raises the stock's target price to 25.25 Singapore dollars from S$20.37 with an unchanged buy rating. Shares are 3.2% higher at S$23.31. (ronnie.harui@wsj.com)

0640 GMT - Nordic markets are seen opening higher with IG calling the OMXS30 up 1.5% at around 3160. The U.S. and Iran reportedly reached an agreement overnight to stop the war, SEB's U.S. economist and Fed watcher Elisabet Kopelman writes. A signing will take place in Switzerland on Friday, after which the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened to traffic and the U.S. will end its blockade of Iran, Kopelman says. Many ambiguities remain, but a solution to the Strait of Hormuz's effective closure seems closer than at any point since the war started, Kopelman adds. Stock markets are rising in Asia and futures are pointing higher for both the U.S. and Europe. OMXS30 closed at 3113.57, OMXN40 at 2660.10 and OBX at 1942.63. (dominic.chopping@wsj.com)

0627 GMT - Boohoo's turnaround strategy is starting to deliver tangible financial progress with profit recovery and early signs of sales stabilization, Shore Capital analysts Katie Cousins and Clive Black write in a note. The U.K. retailer--which has rebranded as Debenhams--has moved from restructuring into early recover, the analysts say. The group is delivering much better results, along with an improved balance sheet, they add. While encouraging, the recovery in gross merchandise value is still at an early stage, the analysts say, adding that the group's Youth Brands business remains a weak spot as it continues to face competition from the likes of Shein and Temu. Shore Capital upgrades the stock to buy from a hold rating. Shares closed at 25 pence on Friday. (andrea.figueras@wsj.com)

0604 GMT - Burberry's turnaround is mostly complete, as the British luxury group enjoys continued sales momentum and market share gains, Berenberg analysts say in a note. But some investors question whether the recovery can extend meaningfully beyond heritage categories such as trench coats and scarves, they say. "We think that the restructuring under the 'Burberry Forward' plan is largely complete, and we acknowledge the regional green shoots of recovery for growth." However, they remain cautious on the sustainability of the sales acceleration and the company's ability to generate the operating leverage required to meet its midterm margin targets. Shares closed at 11.76 pounds. (andrea.figueras@wsj.com)

0600 GMT - Mayora Indah's margins are likely to improve thanks to lower commodity prices, says DBS Group Research's Bryan Soegianto in a note. The Indonesian food and beverage company remains a key beneficiary of softer prices in cocoa, coffee and sugar, he says, noting that gross profit remained resilient in the first four months of the year despite macro headwinds. Mayora's 2026 growth is likely to remain largely volume-driven, as the company strengthens its product portfolio with new products, he adds. Its 2026 sales are forecast to grow around 5%, within the company's guidance of 5%-8%, says the analyst. DBS maintains its buy rating and 2,300 rupiah target price. Shares rise 3.35% to 1,695 rupiah. (megan.cheah@wsj.com)

0557 GMT - Doosan Corp. is likely to post steady on-quarter operating-profit growth in 2Q thanks to new products and copper-clad-laminate price increases, CGS International's Yonghwan Lee says in a research report. Its electro-materials division's earnings should be strong, led by continued growth in network board CCL sales on increased global server shipments, the analyst says. Its biggest end-customer's next-generation server platforms are expected to drive CCL content growth per rack, which should lead to steady quarterly earnings growth in the company's electro-materials division over 2026-2027. The brokerage maintains the stock's add rating, but raises the target price to 2,800,000 won from 2,400,00 won to reflect the company's clearer growth path. Shares are 9.9% lower at 1,709,000 won.
