CME Group and Morningstar entered a multi-year licensing agreement, allowing the derivatives marketplace to offer products based on the investment insight provider's equity index benchmarks.

Under the agreement, CME Group will sell trading contracts based on the Morningstar Market Indexes, including ones covering U.S. total market, along with large, mid and small cap stocks, the companies said Wednesday.

The deal comes after Morningstar acquired the Center for Research in Security Prices, or CRSP, a provider of historical stock-market data and indexes, earlier this year. The company said it is currently rebranding CRSP to Morningstar Market Indexes.

CME Group said the move aims to enable its clients to use derivatives based on indexes that underpin more than $3 trillion in linked assets. It is also expected to provide clients with a better framework to navigate market volatility, the company said.
