Equinor Unlikely to Hike Buyback This Year -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
Jun 10

1038 GMT - Norway's Equinor is unlikely to raise its buyback from $1.5 billion this year, RBC Capital Markets analysts Biraj Borkhataria and Adnan Dhanani write ahead of the company's capital markets day next week. The energy company is likely to wait until early next year before changing distributions, they add. Equinor has previously returned too much to shareholders and will likely want to retain some cash for M&A should the opportunities arise, the analysts say. Furthermore, the fact shares have risen by 40% over the past year is likely to halt any push to raise the buyback, they say. Shares rise 0.4% to 347.60 Norwegian kroner. (adam.whittaker@wsj.com)
