Photocure ASA has acquired the precision diagnostics company Vesica Health in a $30.5 million cash-and-stock deal.

The Norwegian specialty pharma company said Thursday that it wanted to snag the U.S.-based Vesica's flagship urine-based molecular test AssureMDx, which provides early detection for bladder cancer.

"This transaction represents a significant step forward in our strategy to build a comprehensive bladder cancer platform," Chief Executive Dan Schneider said.

The transaction price includes a $3 million equity investment that was already completed earlier this year, an $11 million cash payment and $2.75 million payment of Photocure that was due at closing, and $13.5 million in milestone-based payments tied to Medicare reimbursements.
