Ulta Beauty beat first-quarter sales and earnings estimates and slightly raised its full-year earnings growth.

The beauty retailer reported "broad-based growth across all channels and major categories," attributing the results to the strengths of its model, focused execution by its associates, and "the effectiveness of our strategy in an uncertain macroeconomic landscape," President and CEO Kecia Steelman said.

For the fiscal first quarter ended May 2, Ulta said net sales increased 11.1% to $3.16 billion, and adjusted earnings increased 15% to $7.74 a share.

Wall Street was expecting sales of $3.12 billion and adjusted earnings of $6.89 a share, according to FactSet.

Ulta said sales at stores open at least a year increased 5.3%, above the 4.7% that analysts were expecting.

Ulta's shares were rising 5.2% in after-hours trading, above $520.77, after closing down 1.2% at $494.87 in regular trading. The stock is down 18.2% this year through Tuesday's close, but up 4.6% over the past 12 months.

Ulta Beauty, based in Bolingbrook, Ill., generates revenue from its retail stores, which sell makeup, skin care, tools and brushes, fragrance, and bath and body products; its salon services; and e-commerce.

Company executives will discuss financial results during a conference call at 4:30 p.m. Eastern time.
