1045 GMT - India has signaled that it is not comfortable with further depreciation in the rupee, Nomura's Sonal Varma says on the sidelines of the Nomura Investment Forum Asia. Measures have been taken towards addressing the outflow of investments, including the prime minister's appeal to locals to conserve foreign exchange and stop buying gold, Varma says, adding that more measures can be taken. However, if the Iran situation and oil prices don't settle down, it will remain difficult for the currency, Varma says. The central bank could take non-monetary measures soon to further intervene, Varma says. The 100 level for U.S. dollar-rupee exchange rate is likely a psychologically important level to watch, Varma adds. The U.S. dollar was last 0.5% higher at 95.7050 rupees. (kimberley.kao@wsj.com)
