Shares of Medtronic jumped 5% Wednesday after the medical-device maker reported better-than-expected quarterly results, helped by strong sales of devices used in heart procedures.
The company also said it applied for U.S. regulatory approval to expand the uses of its Hugo robotic-assisted survey system to include general surgery and gynecologic procedures. Medtronic and rival Johnson & Johnson are going up against longtime surgical robot leader Intuitive Surgical with new offerings.
Medtronic shares are on pace for their largest percentage increase since November 2020.
