WPP Wages Are Going Down as Automation Takes Hold -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
Jun 03

0959 GMT - WPP salaries are declining even as automation displaces junior roles and offsets cost inflation among senior workers, Bernstein analysts say in a research note. This points to the U.K. advertising company's ability to manage costs and sustain margins, but doesn't fully make up for continuing top-line pressure on profitability, the analysts say, citing their own analysis of job-board data, geographic salary benchmarking and internal modeling of wage mix. "WPP's base salaries per head have been trending lower since 2023, even as the workforce skews more senior. Typically, higher seniority should push average wages upward, but we see the opposite," the analysts say. WPP shares fall 1.9%. (adria.calatayud@wsj.com)
