Stellantis, the European automaker whose brands include Chrysler, Dodge, and Maserati, has ambitious plans to improve its growth and profitability, revamp its global operations, and launch dozens more fuel-efficient vehicles worldwide.

The automaker on Thursday morning announced FaSTLAne 2030, an ambitious five-year, 60 billion euro ($69.5 billion) global strategy to accelerate growth and profit.

Stellantis shares were down 2.8% to $7.32 in early afternoon trading. The stock is down 33% year to date and down 29% over the past 12 months.

Between now and 2030, Stellantis will launch more than 60 new vehicles and significantly refresh 50 other existing models, across all brands and powertrain energies. The project will include 29 battery-electric vehicles, 15 plug-in hybrid or range-extended EVs, 24 hybrid EVs, and 39 internal combustion engine/mild hybrid EVs.

As part of plans to grow revenue by 25% and improve profitability margins in North America, Stellantis will launch 11 all-new vehicles, including seven models under $40,000 and two under $30,000. It said 60% of the EUR36 billion ($41.7 billion) it is investing in brands and products will be focused on North America.

Stellantis said it will invest 70% of its brand and product investment in four global brands that have the greatest scale and highest potential profitability: Jeep, Ram, Peugeot, and FIAT.

It will also increase the "brand distinctiveness" of five regional brands: Chrysler, Dodge, Citroën, Opel, and Alfa Romeo. To strengthen the future of its Maserati luxury brand, it will outline plans for two EVs in December.

"FaSTLAne 2030 is the result of months of disciplined work across the Company and is designed to drive long-term profitable growth," said CEO Antonio Filosa, who is one year into the job.

Stellantis is investing more than EUR24 billion ($27.8 billion), or 40% of total research and development and capital expenditure over the next five years, in global platforms, powertrains, and new technologies.

It also plans to embed more artificial intelligence, including in its central computing and software, in its vehicle cockpits, and via an autonomous driving system. It will launch the technologies, called Brain, SmartCockpit, and AutoDrive, next year, and by 2030 about a third of its vehicles will be equipped with at least one of those capabilities.

Stellantis will expand its partnership with China's state-owned Dongfeng Motor to produce Peugeots and Jeeps in China and other regions, and it will create a European joint venture starting at its manufacturing plant in Rennes, France. In the U.S., Stellantis will work with Jaguar Land Rover across products and technology.
