Agios Pharmaceuticals (AGIO) said Friday the European Commission granted marketing authorization for Pyrukynd to treat adults with anemia associated with transfusion-dependent and non-transfusion-dependent alpha- or beta-thalassemia.
The oral therapy received orphan medicinal product designation in the European Union.
The approval was based on results from the two phase 3 clinical trials evaluating the medicine in adults with thalassemia, Agios said.
The company added that its partner, Avanzanite Bioscience, will continue to commercialize and distribute Pyrukynd across Europe.
