DexCom (DXCM) said Monday that it launched Dexcom Flex, a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system for adults with Type 2 diabetes who are not using intensive insulin therapy, in Germany.

The system is aimed at patients using basal insulin, oral medications or GLP-1 drugs and provides real-time glucose readings through smartphones or smartwatches without routine fingerpricks, DexCom said.

DexCom said the device includes customizable low-glucose alerts and tracking tools for food and activity. The company cited studies showing CGM use in Type 2 diabetes patients may help lower HbA1c levels and reduce diabetes-related complications and hospitalizations.
