Japanese luxury hotel group Imperial Hotel Ltd. said that the schedule for rebuilding the Main Building of its Imperial Hotel Tokyo has become uncertain in an announcement on Thursday.

The company initially planned the rebuilding over the course of five fiscal years ending March 2037. However, delays in redeveloping the surrounding area of the hotel, which is located in the capital's Uchisaiwaicho district, have disrupted the schedule. Soaring construction costs and energy prices also drove the decision.

The Imperial Hotel Tokyo consists of the Main Building and the Tower Building. The hotel group initially planned the Main Building's reconstruction after completing the Tower Building's reconstruction over the course of five fiscal years ending March 2031.

The hotel group said it now aims to start the reconstruction of the Tower Building around the end of fiscal 2030, which ends March 2031.
