Berkshire Added Positions in Delta and Macy's During Abel's First Quarter as CEO -- WSJ

Berkshire Hathaway took new positions in Delta Air Lines and Macy's during its first quarter with Greg Abel as chief executive.

The company also exited its positions in Amazon.com, Domino's Pizza, Mastercard, Visa, and UnitedHealth Group, among others, during the March quarter.

The Omaha, Neb., company disclosed its stockholdings in a regulatory filing Friday afternoon.

The exited holdings, all on the smaller side in Berkshire's stock portfolio, might have been positions managed by former investment manager Todd Combs. The Wall Street Journal reported in April that Abel unloaded the stocks managed by Combs, who decamped for JPMorgan Chase.

Abel succeeded Warren Buffett as CEO in January. In his first letter to shareholders in February, Abel made clear there are positions he considers "core," such as Apple, American Express, Coca-Cola and Moody's, and wrote that Berkshire would continue its "concentrated approach" to stock investing.

Institutional investors managing at least $100 million in U.S. stocks and certain other equities must disclose their holdings at the end of each quarter in Form 13F filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Form 13Fs provide an outdated look at stock portfolios because investors have 45 days to submit the filings. Still, Berkshire's disclosures are widely parsed by market participants seeking insight into the decisions made by the company Buffett ran for decades.

Berkshire Class A shares have fallen 4.1% this year, below the S&P 500 index's 8.2% gain.
