1230 ET - PayPal's restructuring initiative will involve a shift in focus toward consumer-facing businesses, including an expansion of Venmo. The move will help differentiate PayPal from other payment service providers, but winning over consumers presents its own challenges, JPMorgan analysts write. The move "could bring with it a higher cost of doing business given how competitive it is to serve/monetize the consumer," they write. "We think this renewed focus on the consumer makes sense in light of increasing competition on the merchant-side from modern competitors like Stripe, though recognize competition from digital wallets and neobanks (e.g. Cash App, Chime) is fierce and gaining mind/wallet share can be expensive."
