Mirum Pharmaceuticals' shares rallied after the company met its primary endpoint for a Phase 2b study of its treatment for primary sclerosing cholangitis.
The stock rose 14% to an all-time high of $110.49 on Monday, and have more than doubled in price in the last year.
Mirum said volixibat, an oral treatment designed to selectively inhibit the body's ileal bile acid transporter, met the primary endpoint in its Vistas Phase 2b study. Primary sclerosing cholangitis is a rare and progressive disease in which bile ducts inside and outside the liver become inflamed, scarred, and narrowed, the company said.
The study involved 158 patients with cholestatic pruritus caused by primary sclerosing cholangitis, Mirum said. Statistically significant improvements in pruritus were observed within two weeks of treatment among patients.
Mirum said it has a pre-New Drug Application meeting for volixibat scheduled with the Food and Drug Administration for this summer, and plans to submit that application in the second half.
