Northern Trust's first-quarter net income rose as client inflows and strength in stock, bond and private markets generated higher fees.
The Chicago money manager and custodian bank posted earnings of $525.5 million, or $2.71 a share, up from $392 million, or $1.90 a share, a year earlier.
On average, analysts surveyed by FactSet had anticipated earnings of $2.33 a share.
Revenue rose 14% to $2.21 billion, surpassing the average analyst target of $2.12 billion.
As of March 31, total assets under custody or administration amounted to $18.554 trillion, up 10% from a year earlier.
Trust, investment and other servicing fees rose 11% to $1.34 billion.
Net interest income on a fully taxable equivalent basis rose 15% to $661.6 million.
"While global and economic uncertainty persists, we remain focused on supporting our clients, strengthening our global franchise, and delivering lasting value for stakeholders," said Chairman and Chief Executive Michael O'Grady, in a statement.
