PayPay's Revenue Likely to Grow as Digital Payments Rise in Japan -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
Apr 06

0714 GMT - PayPay's revenue is likely to grow substantially in the coming years as digital-payment volumes climb in Japan and the company's financial services gain traction, Jefferies analysts say in a note. Japan's shift to digital payments from cash is accelerating, a tailwind for SoftBank Group's payments app operator, the U.S. bank says. PayPay's securities unit is also expected to benefit as Japanese households shift more of their funds into investments from cash, Jefferies says. The bank initiates coverage on Nasdaq-listed PayPay with a buy rating and a target price of $28. Shares last closed at $21.02. (kosaku.narioka@wsj.com; @kosakunarioka)
